However, Messi’s departure from FC Barcelona had been a long time coming. The club had been facing financial difficulties in recent years, which had only been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite efforts to restructure the club’s finances, FC Barcelona was unable to offer Messi a new contract that met his financial expectations. As a result, Messi was forced to leave the club he had called home for over two decades.

Messi’s departure from FC Barcelona had been met with mixed emotions from fans and football enthusiasts around the world. Many fans were saddened by the news, as Messi had been an integral part of the club’s success for over 20 years. Others, however, believed that Messi’s departure could be an opportunity for FC Barcelona to rebuild and revitalize the team.

Regardless of how fans feel about Messi’s departure, there is no denying that he has left an indelible mark on FC Barcelona and the football world as a whole. His incredible talent, dedication, and passion for the game have made him one of the greatest football players of all time, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of players.

As for Messi’s future, many clubs around the world were interested in signing him, including Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, and Inter Milan.

Messi and PSG

The football world was left in shock when Lionel Messi, one of the greatest players in the history of the game, signed with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on a two-year deal in August 2021. After spending his entire professional career with FC Barcelona, the Argentine superstar’s move to the French capital marked the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in his illustrious career.

Many fans around the world were devastated to see him leave. However, others were excited to see him take on a new challenge and see what he could achieve with a new team.

PSG had been rumored as a potential destination for Messi for several months before his signing was confirmed. The Parisian club had already assembled a formidable squad, including the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Sergio Ramos, and the addition of Messi only made them even stronger. The prospect of seeing these four world-class players line up together was a tantalizing one for football fans.

The move to PSG reunited Messi with his former Barcelona teammate Neymar, with whom he formed a lethal partnership during their time together at Camp Nou & making a famous trio with the Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, helping Barcelona win their 5th Champions League and a significant 2nd Treble of trophies. Now, the two players, along with Mbappe, formed a potent attacking trio that struck fear into the hearts of opposition defenses. Fans were eager to see how the three would gel together on the field and what kind of football they would produce.

Messi’s debut for PSG came on August 29th in a match against Reims. The Argentine came on as a substitute in the second half and immediately made an impact, setting up Mbappe for a goal and scoring one himself in a 2-0 victory. It was a sign of things to come, as Messi quickly settled into life in Paris and began to show the world why he is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time.

Since joining PSG, Messi has continued to break records and dominate on the field. In February 2022, he scored his 700th career goal in a match against Lyon, becoming only the second player in history to achieve this feat. He has also helped PSG win the French Super Cup, Trophée des Champions, and French league title(Ligue 1).

Messi’s move to PSG has not only had an impact on the football world but also on the city of Paris itself. The Argentine’s arrival has generated a great deal of excitement and has brought even more attention to the city’s already thriving football culture. PSG’s matches are now some of the hottest tickets in town, and the team’s success on the field has helped to raise the profile of the city’s football scene even further.

Bringing Messi and other superstars to the French capital including former Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos and the Italian Euro 2020 Champion Donnarumma, the only main objective of PSG was to bring the first-ever Champions League title home. But in contrast to their outstanding performance in the French League, Mauricio Pochettino’s side was unable to deliver a standout performance in UCL and was knocked out by Real Madrid in the last 16 in a dramatic 2 legged tie in which the Spanish side made an unbelievable comeback against the French side at their own home after going 0-2 down on aggregate by the help of Karim Benzema hat trick.

The French side won the Ligue 1 title but the Champions League title still remained the main objective for the French club. They instantly sacked Pochettino at the end of the 2021 season and then Christophe Galtier took command of PSG as a coach with the only goal of building an enough strong side worthy of bringing a UCL title home as the Parisian side didn’t lack the potential to do so, having Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Leo Messi still on the team list with the veteran Brazilian centreback Marquinhos the Frenchmen Kimpembe and the Spaniard Sergio Ramos with a midfield consisting of much experienced Marco Verrati and Danilo.
