Kakar Acts on Circular Debt, Urges Youth Vigilance

On Wednesday, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar directed the Ministry of Energy to formulate a robust and lasting strategy for eliminating the circular debt in the energy sector. While chairing a meeting to discuss the strategy for reducing the circular debt, the prime minister emphasized that all stakeholders must collectively contribute to debt reduction. He informed meeting participants that the caretaker government, upon assuming power, promptly implemented measures for economic revival and is currently taking comprehensive steps to curb circular debt.

The prime minister highlighted that the anti-power theft operation has resulted in increased recovery of electricity dues for power distribution companies. The meeting received a briefing on the current circular debt situation in the petroleum and energy sectors, with various proposals presented.

Federal ministers Dr. Shamshad Akhtar and Muhammad Ali, along with relevant senior officers, attended the meeting. Additionally, the prime minister, speaking as the chief guest at the Pakistan National Youth Convention 2024, urged the citizens to reject and collectively combat the recent vicious propaganda against Pakistan unleashed by its enemies. He emphasized that the youth could play a constructive role in addressing this emerging national security challenge by staying focused and fact-checking information through authentic sources rather than succumbing to propaganda.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, NI (M), was the guest of honour at the convention. The prime minister acknowledged the armed forces’ commitment and professional excellence in the fight against terrorism, expressing appreciation for the indispensable role played by the youth, constituting 65% of the population, in the nation’s successes against terrorism.
