The leaders of the All-Party Hurriyat Conference in India’s illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir are demanding that the United Nations fulfill its obligations regarding the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with its resolutions. Including the historic resolution passed on January 5, 1949.

According to Kashmir Media Service, on January 5, 1949, The United Nations Security Council passed a resolution stating that a democratic process of free and impartial referendum should properly decide the question of the accession of the state of Jammu and Kashmir to India or Pakistan. The leaders of the All-Party Hurriyat Conference, in their statements from Srinagar, are urging the United Nations to actively play its role in resolving the Kashmir conflict in its historical context to contribute to making South Asia peaceful.

Call for Lasting Peace: Advocating Kashmiri Right to Self-Determination

He asserted that the establishment of lasting peace in the region hinges on granting Kashmiris the right to determine their own future. He emphasized that India’s obstinacy has hindered the implementation of UN resolutions so far. According to him, Kashmiris have the fundamental right to self-determination. And they persistently engage in a peaceful struggle for freedom until they are granted this right.
