Nawaz Sharif to Address Public Gathering in Mansehra as Election Campaign Gains Momentum in NA-15 Constituency
On Monday, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif will arrive in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Mansehra district to address a public gathering in the constituency of NA-15, where he is set to contest the upcoming elections scheduled for February 8. Additionally, the party’s senior vice president and chief organizer, Maryam Nawaz, will also speak at the rally. Capt (retd) Mohammad Safdar, Maryam Nawaz’s husband, along with former K-P MPA Sardar Muhammad Yousaf Zaman, have organized the public gathering.
During the event, Nawaz Sharif will articulate his vision for the country’s development and the relief of inflation-affected citizens. Last month, the NA-15 Mansehra returning officer, Hajra Sami, dismissed objections raised by PTI’s Azam Swati and approved Nawaz’s nomination papers. The scrutiny process involved arguments from opposition candidates, legal representatives, and Barrister Jahangir Khan Jadoon presenting evidence in support of the PML-N supremo.
Controversy Over Nawaz’s Eligibility: Swati’s Objections Dismissed After Thorough Review
Azam Swati contended that the returning officer lacked the authority to declare Nawaz eligible for the upcoming elections, citing Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution, which deems individuals dishonest for corruption. Swati also pointed out Nawaz’s lifetime disqualification by a five-member apex court bench, asserting that no forum could deviate from the apex court’s decision. After a thorough review, the returning officer rejected the objections, granting Nawaz the eligibility to contest the election from NA-15 Mansehra.
