Sibi Rally Bombing: Four Dead, PTI Candidate Escapes
A bomb went off earlier at a PTI rally in Sibi, causing at least four fatalities and five wounded. Leading the protest on Jinnah Road was Saddam Tareen, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaaf candidate for the NA-253 National Assembly constituency, who escaped without incident. As the Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaaf rally moved through the neighborhood, an improvised explosive device (IED) that had been planted on a roadside motorcycle exploded, according to witnesses and police. Initial examinations demonstrated the powerful force of the IED.
Following the explosion, all stores and marketplaces on the main Jinnah Road were shuttered, and the area was cordoned off by law authorities while inquiries were conducted. In reaction to the incident, security measures in and around Sibi were subsequently stepped up.
